This is a fabulous idea -- I've been wondering what to do for the kids' rooms -- esp. the one that likes to draw *all* the time! This is perfect for her.

I tried covering a metal sheet with the make your own chalkboard paint. It worked, however, when you use the chalk to write it scrapes off the paint since it is hard to get it to cling to the metal sheet. Gotta be a better way just havent found it yet.

I love the "look" of the chalkboard paint on the plants but I knew with all the "help" I receive watering the chalk would wash right off...so what does a martha want to be do -- I used regular black paint on my pots and wrote in white paint pen, so that I got the durability I could live with but the "look" I was after.

Love that potting planter idea! So cute!

I too have painted my own metal chalkboard but the metal fragments simply were too few and far between to be very effective. Painted metal as Tim suggests is the way to go.

Now if they'd just invent a dustless chalk...

I was actually thinking of using chalkboard paint on some planters because I like the finish! I was going to then rub chalk over the raised parts to highlight them. Then to finish, I'll spray them with polyurethane (matte) to protect them!

I have a chalkboard area between too very tall windows in my dining room. I use it to write the menu on, when I have people over...When I don't have anything special to write, I just have a generic Happy Holidays, Happy Spring, or GO S.U.! type of message on there. :) I really love it. It's a fun thing to have!!
