Mass Loaded Vinyl is exactly that "mass. You can get the Mass with your 2 layers of Drywall (5/8" is even better because of the "mass"). The Green Glue in between the 2 layers will take you much further, you can get almost another 10 STC points vs. about 3 with the MLV. See this article http://www.tmsoundproofing.com/soundproofing-basics.html
Let us know here on the results so that we can all learn.

hi, my wall now has the following:
wood paneling outside, Reflectix (for radiant heat, and Johns Manville R13 insulation, and I am holding off on the 1/2" drywall until I decide on a sound abatement application due to road noise.
I'm wondering about your opinion of using two layers of 1/2" drywall with Green Glue verses mass loaded poly vinyl?

thank you for any help you may provide, desperate for cozy home,
Nancy

Good stuff
I have been using Greenglue for several years now. I’ve heard that quiteglue produces the same results and it’s cheaper. I can save money on projects by using quietglue.

Keep up the good work guys!

That is a great post. I found the <a href="http://www.tmsoundproofing.com/store/home.php?cat=2" rel="nofollow">green glue</a> a bit cheaper at one of their distributors, they also have some great <a href="http://www.tmsoundproofing.com/store/pages.php?pageid=21" rel="nofollow">soundproofing articles.</a>

I'm so glad I decided to catch up on my RG posts. "We" (my contractor) start dry wall this week on our huge renovation project. This product would be great to try in the master bedroom. I'm going to price out the extra dry wall and the glue. Thanks for the post.

Okay thanks to this post, i'll tear down the egg trays hanging on my walls. Now time for some testing to see if this really works.

I didn't realize such product existed. I figured sound proofing was expensive. Thanks for the great tip.

Great to know! I've always wanted to somehow soundproof the wall between our master bedroom and guestroom, but it's on the "probably will never happen" list. Now I can move it over to the "to-do" list! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

I bought a house last summer that is a "twin" house. Until I moved in, I had no idea how noise traveled from one house to the other. I had read up on Green Glue but didn't want to buy any until I knew it worked. Thank you for your post! My brother is a carpenter and I have had experience hanging drywall so I think I am going to give this stuff a shot!
