Art Hardware From Hoapley ARTware – Review and Giveaway!

Custom Handmade Art Hardware

These cabinet knobs are from a new advertiser, Hoapley Artware, which is run by a super-sweet and creative individual by the name of Jaxx. She and her small team of part-time help make each and every knob or pull from scratch, by hand.

I’ve been a huge fan of art hardware for a long time but I’ve never seen anything with the unique combination of design style, great colors, and really high quality that these knobs have. I have to tell you, when I opened the box that arrived with these samples, I was very impressed with what I found.

Top Quality

I can’t really decide what impressed me the most. For me, it was probably the colors, but the designs themselves are incredible. The assortment I received includes a couple of surf boards, a bunch of beautiful flowers, the fish you see at the top, and two of these flamingos! They are all wonderfully hand-painted.

But the quality is probably what surprised me the most. This hardware has the feel of something well made. The surface is smooth to the touch (and cool, due to the natural ceramic-like material), the screw seems very securely mounted to the back, and the weight is more substantial than I expected.

As for look, you can see most of it in the pictures, but I’ll say that the colors are vibrant and solid no matter how closely I look.

A Little History

The work I was holding in my hands raised some questions in my mind about who makes them, how are they made, what are they made of, etc. So I asked Jaxx a few questions and here is a short bit of what I found out:

Jaxx says she “escaped the cubicle” to work in antiques. She often took discarded old furniture and made it new and beautiful, but always wanted more unique hardware. That’s how it all started.
She personally hand sculpts the design of each product and makes a custom mold.
The actual material is a secret recipe ceramic type material. It feels great.
Each knob or pull is hand painted to order, so get this…

168 Kris April 10, 2010 at 9:14 pm: I love the knobs too, unfortunately, I ordered some in October 2009 (and PAID for) and never received. Jaxx claims they were shipped and returned a couple of times (although I was getting other packages). She still has my $60.10 and refuses to respond to emails. I WOULD NOT USE THIS VENDOR – VERY UNRELIABLE!!!!!
