Protecting Outdoor Furniture – Audio Q&A Day

in Q&A Day

Here’s the question:

I’ve done a lot of research but can’t find an answer to my question. We just ordered some solid wood (chinese ash) patio furniture.  Our
patio surface is crushed gravel for now.

I’m afraid that simple,  round rubber soles might not be enough to protect the legs of the  furniture against the rough surface of the gravel nor stand up to water flowing over the gravel when it rains.  Of course, we plan on covering the furniture when it rains, but my concern is protecting the  legs.   What would you suggest?

Thanks!
Megan

For this round of Q&A Day I’m answering the questions verbally and including them here as an audio file.  I’ve got six or seven questions at once and I thought that might be better.  I hope you like the format!

Thank you for answering my question! I’ve never heard of Chinese Ash either. You can see what we ordered by going here: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=535771 I hope we didn’t get ripped off. They say it’s made of solid wood. One follow up question: Will the wood hold a clear finish even if I put an oil, or wax coating to soak into the wood first? I read in a few places to do both. It just seems like a waxing might inhibit the clear coat from sticking.

Thanks again! I love this blog.
