Painting The Inside of Your Cabinets For Looks! — And a Few Other Cool Ideas

Color Inside Glass Doors for Effect!

How cool can one picture be? This one from House Beautiful is rockin’ in more ways than one, I’ll tell ya. I don’t even know where to start!

1.

I’ll start with the thing that made me say, out loud, “Wow, that’s cool.” — Colorfully Painted Cabinet Interiors! Maybe I just fell of the turnip truck, but I’ve never seen anything exactly like this before and I love the idea. Hoorah.

2.

Next Up, those awesome blue painted floors! Simple as pie to do… it’s just paint… but looking totally amazing, if you ask me. I’m a fan of the high-gloss paint too (probably oil-based for hardness) since it will really be easy to clean and keep looking new.

3.

Don’t miss what’s happening down the way a bit in the breakfast area. If it didn’t mean I’d have to give-up a total favorite thing (a ginormous kitchen table I made from scratch), I’d be building some great banquette seating in our house. (or at least add it to the list of future projects). This banquette with a green cushion to match the kitchen accent color rocks!

What else?

  • White marble tops that look cool but probably aren’t too expensive.
  • 1×8 lumber run horizontally for wall paneling looks great, easy to do.
  • Love the fluted glass in the cabinet door.
  • Great hinges on the cabinets!
  • Perfect light fixtures in the dining area!

Not For Me…

  • The v-joint cabinet doors and drawer fronts. I like a framed door.
  • Glass door on the fridge… nope. No way.

Did I miss anything?

By the way, welcome back… where have you been?

I was wondering what you were up too! Missed your blog!

Yes the cabinets are awesome and a great way to cheer up a tired looking kitchen–hmm wondering if there is some kind of paint I can use on me that would do the same thing! LOL

welcome back YOU! I would love to paint the inside of my cabinets if I had glass doors, but I don’t. I went to a friends house today that painted her cabinets on the outside BLACK. with stainless steel knobs. It was REALLY cool!

Whoa! Something happened with that Comment button… I just wrote stating that I painted my kitchen cabinets satin black and the insides “leaf green.” Painted the inside of our pantry leaf green and mirrored between the shelves so I could SEE what was there. Fun stuff!

I (*cough*, my husband) painted the interior of our kitchen cabinets last winter, and opted to leave the top cupboard doors off just to show off the look.

I’ll pass along another tip – I was so in love with the look, that I didn’t want a cabinet liner mussing it up. No matter where I looked, there was nothing the color of our interior to “blend” so I went to the Joanne’s (fabric and craft store) and purchased clear vinyl from one of those mega bolts and cut to size. The vinyl was a matte finish, so it didn’t compete even shine-wise with the paint. Looks lovely as you don’t see it at all, just the lovely interior color setting off the dishes.

I just painted our cabinets and ended up painting the insides yellow (including the inside of the door) I really like it for the nice pop of color when you are doing mundane things like putting away the dishes. Like the last poster, I didn’t want to use solid liner, but they did have transparent contact paper at Walmart, which is what we ended up using.

Glad you’re back!

I like the idea of painting the inside of the cabinets a pretty color. Even without glass door fronts, it would be a cheerful pick-me-up everytime a cabinet door was opened.

There is a kitchen related topic I would like to see you address, if you are so inclined. I am quite inamoured by dark wood countertops when paired with white cabinets (like the second photo in the slideshow at this link: http://www.countryliving.com/homes/house-tours/contrasting-textures-colors-0206?click=img_sr

Do you have any experience with wood countertops (pros/cons, low or high maintenance, are they practical around the sink, cost compared to other countertop materials, best woods to use, what are they sealed with, etc.)?

P.S. Dragging my feet on my kitchen remodel. Really, REALLY dreading it ! Ugh. :(
