Creative Use Of Space…

by Tim Layton

I’ve designed dozens of second floor additions. One of the hardest parts is finding a place for the staircase.

I always thought I was pretty innovative. Until now…

How is this for creative use of space?

At least I would have thought to use an undermount sink so the dirt could just be swept right in…

That is absolutely wild! I, too, am not so keen on walking on the counter. The floating lower stairs don’t even seem structural. Which adds to its appeal — it seems totally unreal. I’m completely intrigued to see the rest of the house — where did you find it?

The lower stairs aren’t floating – they have a mirrored surface on the side.

Very creative, but no way could I live with this. Too inviting for kids and pets.

my dog is always trying to get on the kitchen table, she would just love this setup. Can you imagine trying to cook while people are coming downstairs or having party and people walking through your food preparation – no thanks I think it is a gimmick

Unless this is a house where no shoes are allowed indoors, count me out. Who wants people walking on their kitchen counters?

If it was just 1 or 2 peeps… it could work.. as long as there’s no kids or dogs .. Just clean it.. it’s not that big of deal. If it’s a small house what else does a person have to do.?
